Planet
Planet was an international chartsmag with Polish origins. It was released in the years 2000-2002 by the group Addict. Issues 3 and 4 were made in cooperation with the international demoscene website Orange Juice. The main editors of issue 1 were CoolPhonE and Blade, of the other issues Neuroup and Frey, and in issue 3 Yes of Orange Juice and Chandra of Orange Juice were also editors. All issues can be downloaded from scene.org (more than 2000 downloads for most of the issues). The first issue of Planet runs with DOSBox, the other issues are Windows-based and so don't need an emulator.
Planet #1
Planet #1 was released in April 2000. It used the engine of Total Disaster and Amber, which was coded by HeY of Tatanka and Pyshtoff of Tatanka. The music was from Bigyo of Addict. The graphics were made by Kazik of Anadune, Fain of Addict, and Misha of Tatanka.
110 people voted. There were "scene charts" and "crazy charts". The categories of the scene charts were demos, intros, music disks, diskmags, slideshows, ANSI/ASCII packs, groups, ASCII/ANSI makers, coders, editors, graphicians, musicians, raytracers, swappers and text writers. In the crazy charts the categories were drinks, movies, girls, glues for stamps and sex positions. Quite a lot of interesting categories!
Apart from the charts, this issue contained messages and some news, taken from the votesheets. A fine chartsmag all in all.
Planet #2
In Planet #2 (December 2000) the categories were a bit different. The intros category was split to two new categories, intros 64kb and intros 4kb. There were also the new categories scene BBS/FTP, scene WWW services, paper artists and parties in the scene charts, and books, sex accessories, music styles, music bands, utilities and systems in the crazy charts.
The code of the new engine was done by MX of Addict. The engine now ran under Windows and supported true-type fonts and inline images. There were some cool transitional effects such as a plasma like effect. The graphics were made by Mantra of Addic, Zero of IPC, and Neuroup of Addict. The music was by Singer of Altair, Traymuss of Addict, and RTS of Addict.
There were 106 voters, 80% from Poland. There were messages, adverts and a small news corner. In addition there were the results of several parties from the year 2000.
Planet #3
Planet #3 was released in April 2001. It featured the same engine as #2, although the code was perhaps slightly changed. The graphics came from Frey of Addict, Mantra of Addict, Reve of Addict, and Kenet of Logofactory. The music was composed by RTS of Addict, Traymuss of Addict, Redribbon of Mandarine, and Med of Analogik.
There were 116 voters, and now the Polish accounted for only about 30%. People from a lot of different countries had voted for Planet #3 online at Orange Juice. The news section was also FAR bigger than in the previous issue: It covered more than 40 pages! The news items were all taken from Orange Juice. Collections of group homepage links and general scene links from Orange Juice were included in this issue of Planet as well. There were photo reports of Mekka & Symposium 2001 and Addict Anniversary 2001. Of course Planet #3 also included party results, messages and adverts. The charts categories were roughly the same except that there were no editor charts any more.
Planet #4
The making of Planet #4 took until June 2002, when it was finally released. With graphics by Mantra, Neuroup, Frey and BamboOS, and music by RTS, Traymuss (three tunes) and Siatek, it had quite an impressive list of artistic contributors. The engine was again improved, now it featured a better designed setup window and graphical buttons.
165 people had voted. The charts categories were about the same for the scene charts, except that a new category wild-demos had been added and the editor charts had been reintroduced. There were no crazy charts in this issue. Apart from the charts, Planet #4 featured (almost) all the typical elements of Planet - news from Orange Juice, party results and adverts, but no messages corner.
